Havana, Cuba

flights to HavanaHavana is stunning city, its glorious diversity of architecture and neighbourhood design littered with reminders of this heterogeneous nation’s history. Founded on the western banks of a fabulous natural harbour, it was, by the end of the seventeenth centry, a fortified urban port, protected by the water on one side and a ten-metre city wall on the other. Today, what was once contained within the city walls now forms the most captivating section of Habana Vieja, the old city and the capita’s tourist centre, a UNESCO-declared world heritage Site of crumbling magnificence and restored beauty. This is the only part of Havana where you can wander aimlessly and still always stumble upon a notable sight or attraction of some sort.

Although not a city particularly famed for its cuisine, Havana offers the most varied eating scene in Cuba, with a reasonable supply of well-priced international and local restaurants, although their settings are very often more notable than the food: dining in a high-rise tower restaurant with panoramic city views.

All international flights to Havana land at Jose Marti International Airport, about 15 km south of the city centre. The vast majority of the international passengers are deposited at the Terminal Three where most airport services are concentrated. Since there is no public transportation linking the rest of Havana directly with the airport, the chances are you’ll be forced to pay for a taxi.

Copa Airlines Colombia is operating flights to Havana and Bogota every Saturday.
